Afton Izu – Attorney

Afton grew up in Southern California and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from Brigham Young University. While in college, she deferred twice: once to volunteer in Chicago for 18 months and again to teach English to elementary school students in China.

After leaving BYU, Afton earned her law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In her third year, she enrolled in the Criminal Justice Clinic, which cemented her desire to work in the indigent defense sphere. Upon graduation, she clerked for a little over half a year at the D.C. Superior Court.

Prior to joining Nashville Public Defender, Afton worked at the California Appellate Project in San Francisco, a capital defense organization.” What do you think

In her free time, Afton loves running, being outside (especially in water), baking, and laughing with friends.
