Adonica Sumlin grew up in the small town of Langston, Oklahoma. She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in English. She attended Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she earned her J.D. While at SULC, she was a Junior Editor in the Journal of Race, Gender, and Poverty. She was honored to have her journal article published in Volume XV. While at SULC, she was a Marshall Brennan Fellow, where she enjoyed teaching Constitutional Literacy to high school students. Furthermore, she also gained experience as a student attorney in the juvenile clinic. She also had the opportunity to be involved in the community, where she was a mentor at the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition.
Adonica has always had a passion for public service.
During law school, she interned for the East Baton Rouge Public Defender’s Office and the Orleans Public Defender’s Office, where her passion for becoming a public defender grew immensely.|
In her free time, she enjoys community involvement, journaling, and spending time with friends and family.
