Hello, my name is Taylor Banks. I was born in Mobile, Alabama, and moved to Nashville a little over ten years ago. I received my diploma from Hillsboro High School, home of the Burros. After high school, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend the illustrious HBCU, Clark Atlanta University. Pursuing a liberal arts bachelor’s degree. Before my sophomore year, I returned to Tennessee and began studying at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I received my bachelor’s of science, majoring in political science, with a pre-law concentration and a political and civic engagement minor.
As an undergraduate, legal studies became more than an assignment. It became a passion. With the help of MTSU, I obtained purposeful internships that began to shape my career path. The Federal Public Defender’s office allowed me to intern for the summer of 2018. There, I shadowed attorneys, attended federal trials, evaluated jailhouse calls, and assisted investigators. In 2020, Legacy Mission offered college students the chance to volunteer. Through this opportunity, I learned about community advocacy. The students at Legacy were from a variety of ethnicities, ages, and religions.
Later, a legal studies professor introduced me to a law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. I loved the fraternity and became a member in October 2020. However, I continued volunteering for students in underprivileged neighborhoods, teaching dance, and mentoring young girls and boys. Also, I spent time with a women’s advocacy group, Free Hearts. Whose mission is to support and empower incarcerated females. Free Hearts also offers assistance post-release with job placement, therapy group sessions, and housing.
After graduation, a criminal court judge employed me as her judicial assistant in Nashville, Tennessee. This position assisted me in getting a certification from the Metropolitan Police Department in armed guard and special police training with the Metro Police Department in February of 2023.
In my spare time, I enjoy shopping, fine dining, social events with friends, and traveling with family. I love Nashville, Tennessee. It’s very much home now!
